More than 100 years ago Teddy Roosevelt stepped in to force major rule changes in football. At that time there was a movement to ban the sport entirely. There were serious discussions on that front.

With the headlines about Junior Seau and a growing number of stories about the long term debilitating impact of the sport look for significant rule changes and rule enforcement. This will have a carry over to other sports particularly basketball where concussions have been a growing issue.

It should be interesting to see if the referees in basketball tighten things up. We know it will happen in football.

They've already tightened things up in basketball with the rules about flagrant 1 and flagrant 2 fouls for head shots.

You will see even stricter enforcement.
