View Full Version : Marquette vs Morgan State Game Thread
Last non-con game.....Marquette vs Morgan State
Louisville transfer Akoy Agau in the house
Starting lineup will be Duane Wilson, Derrick Wilson, Matt Carlino, Juan Anderson & Steve Taylor
Did not see the list of refs, but Karl Hess is one of them...
*Edit - Other two refs are Brent Hampton and Alfred Smith - I liek Smith, MU has had him once or twice already this year.
A little sloppy but so far not a bad start. Morgan State with a slightly better than pedestrian 7'0 footer, should be some good work for Luke.
A little early for stats, but 5 of MU's 10 points are off of turnovers, keep up the pressure D.
Cedric Blossom, Morgan State's leading scorer picks up an early 2nd foul. Both of his fouls were dumb fouls going for rebounds.
Perfect full court play - Luke pulls down the board, guns it to Derrick at half court, 4 dribbles and hits Jujuan in the corner - Johnson finishes making it look easy - results in a Morgan State TO.
JJJ looking more confident with some gliding, smooth moves. I think it has finally clicked.
I know I have been beating on the same stat for the last few weeks, but MU has 8 assists on 9 made baskets. 9-15 from field & 2-3 from 3pt good for 60% from the field.
Mid way through the first half and only 3 fouls called in this game. 2 on Morgan State's Cedric Blossom, 1 on Juan Anderson.
JJJ looking more confident with some gliding, smooth moves. I think it has finally clicked.
BLT - Almost seems like JJJ needs to score/be involved to really play hard. If he scores early, it all comes together. if he doesn't, he lacks on defense. Best for MU to get him a hoop early in every game if it means he'll play like this!
Nice defensive run by MU. No FGM in 5+ minutes and counting
With Carlino's make, MU is 4-6 from 3pt.
Ok, so I post that MU only has one foul and they foul as I hit submit.
I post that MU is 4-6 from three and as I hit submit Carlino clanks one off the rim, then Jujuan airs one out.
I'll just shut up now.
MU playing great shooting defense but giving up way too many offensive rebounds.
MU with only 3 fouls in the first half. Could be the fewest I have ever seen in a half.
MU is losing the rebounding battle 23-18.

JJ has really found it the last few games........Too bad Duane seems to have lost his 3 point stroke in that same span.
Luke with a really nice half...handled the double team much better and was active on boards and on D.

Giving up way too many offensive rebounds.
JJ is playing exceptionally well.

I hope Cohen gets some playing time in the 2nd half.
Cohen does need some PT. was just talking to Bo Ellis - Bo pointed at Cohen and said, "We need him to play well. That kid will be the key to a win in one of the big games this year."
Cohen now 2-2 from three and follows it up with a steal and an assist.
MU still down on the rebounding battle - 33-30. Probably the most disappointing stat of the game is that Morgan State has 16 offensive rebounds.

JJJ was my player of the game - the 2 air balls were the only substantive things in the debit column. Handful of assists as well. He is exceptional in moving without the ball - he consistently gets himself in a favorable position to be on the receiving end of a pass. I like that Matt, Duane, JJJ, Juan and Luke line-up.
Cohen really can be an x factor like Bo said.

Agree re jjj - looked very solid today. His biggest weakness imo is his handle. If he tightens this up a bit he could be a real nice player.

I think it's his man defense. I remember one time he got burned off the dribble badly. If his defense catches up to his offense, he will be a very nice player. It's fun watching him grow this year.
