Getting closer to tip off.

On the plus side, we shouldn't go winless down here. Rider looked awful. Announcers mentioning possibility of zone. Could work well against GT's lackluster back court.

Carlino's quick trigger is allowing Georgia Tech back in the game.

And the quick trigger of Carlino gives MU a boost.
Go figure.
The lovely Vicki Diener in the stands?

Taylor misses layup against taller interior player. Picks up foul in frustration. Rinse. Repeat.

Sucks that GT closed the half on a 11 to 2 run.

17-7 deficit on the glass at intermission.
Need much more out of Juan and Taylor.

Did Derrick hit the backboard on that FT? I'd like to see him dip that ball before he shoots it.
I understand that we have no size, but 17-7 is pretty poor - need one of the guards to crash the glass too aka Vander Blue.

Deonte Burton's feel for the game is less than stellar.
To say the least.
Can't let their guards score on lay ups with or without a travel.

At the under 12 timeout, Georgia Tech has a 23-12 rebounding advantage. Taylor has one rebound.

Some better rebounding effort from the guards this half. Derrick and Duane both with some big defensive boards earlier.
At least one per game Jujuan dribbles the ball out of bounds, not even close. Need court awareness!

24-20 now on the glass. Everybody now pitching in on glass = the way it has to be this season.

Being such a guard dominated team and struggling with the press. Not good play by the boys late in the game.

What a horrible jump ball call. A D-1 official makes that call? WOW. Just an awful piece of officiating. Awful.
At no point in time did a Ga Tech player ever have his hands on the ball.

At no point in time did a Ga Tech player ever have his hands on the ball.
And yet, on the other end, Taylor has his hands on the ball with the GT player, for a longer period of time, and no jump call.

Well, it was James Breeding who made the call, so I'm not sure I'd call him a D1 official...

Good for Matt Carlino. It's been a very long road for that young man.

Zone was a good plan against a big not so quick GT team. Cannot play zone all the time.

Matt Carlino had more triples in the first half tonight (5) than Derrick Wilson has for his career (3). Yikes.

What the man with the visor says. Take every win we can get. Thought Juan crashed the boards great In the second half. GT still got their share but often simply because of their size advantage as I thought Steve and Juan were in good position and fighting for the ball. Thought the zone was not too shabby and a good decision against gt. carlino.....wow. That was impressive. Thought Duane was quietly solid. Still need to find some way to get deonte rolling.

Btw so glad wojo took out Wilson on offense at the end to prevent the hack a Wilson approach. For whatever reason buzz would not do this last year and as much as I liked him it drove me bonkers.

Dan Dakich said Marquette would really struggle in the second half.

You talking about Dakich comments at halftime? I thought Marquette was the better team at halftime.
How do you win a game where you lose the rebounding battle 41-29? By outscoring your opponent at the free throw line 23-7!

I see it listed 40 to 35 on the rebounds on the CBS box score.

I would say Breeding officiated a terrible game but that is redundant. It was a typical James Breeding game. He was awful--and he was the senior official. How does he keep getting high D1 games? Every coach in the country knows he is "turble".

Official box score e-mailed to me from Scott Kuykendall. Will try to upload.

It didn't feel like Marquette got out rebounded 41-29. I thought many times Anderson and Derrick Wilson got key rebounds.

Deonte with 5 steals.
Deonte with 5 steals.
And zero rebounds
It didn't feel like Marquette got out rebounded 41-29. I thought many times Anderson and Derrick Wilson got key rebounds.
It was only 24-20 on defensive rebounds, though. It looked like Wojo was dropping the team back and not trying to crash the offensive boards, thus preventing getting killed in transition as they had been. MU has to get more from Steve tonight than three rebounds in 32 minutes as they will pound it in.
