Looks like we are going to start some kind of scheduling arrangement

Is that just speculation? I'm hoping its true, although I hope we still play UW outside of that arrangement because it would be nice to play UW and a different Big 10 team every year.

Big Ten, Big East making joint men’s hoops announcement in NYC on Monday. Expect it to be challenge series, starting in 2015.
I would expect our Ohio State game to count as one of the challenge games next year...i doubt we add another Big 10 game

Wonder why not 10 games? Also wonder what this does to the ACC-Big 10 Challenge. Probably nothing.
Does this mean Big East his high-major after all? I mean would the Big 10 schedule a "Challenge" with a mid-major conference? Wonder how Fran, Butch, EricTHEEred, and the other Lunatics on the Badger Board will spin this.
Couldn't help myself - just posted reports of the challenge on Badger Nation.
Doesn't start this coming season.

Hopefully we have a good season and we don't get Northwestern for a Duke matchup. Hopefully we can get a Michigan, Michigan State or .....Indiana.

Wonder why not 10 games?
I suspect it's because they are trying to make this a heavyweight kickoff to the season, and the Big East won't likely always have 10 good teams. If 1-2 bad teams get in, they can deal with it, but say SHU, DePaul, Butler, and one other are all bad the same year, that could make for some ugly nights of basketball. Only playing 8 games reduces the odds of that.

Ok - If you were Val Akerman and Jim Delaney, and you want to get the Gavitt Tip Off Games started with the most posible pub, what would be the 8 games you would want played?
Here would by my year one eight games.
Xavier v. Ohio State
Georgetown v. Maryland
St. John's v Rutgers
Villanova v. Michigan State
MU v. Indiana
Seton Hall v. Michigan
DePaul v. Northwestern
Providence v Wisconsin

I like those, but would swap out MU-Indiana and Hall-Michigan for Marquette-Michigan and Butler-IU.

It will be very interesting to see if Ohio State/Xavier or Maryland/Georgetown happen through the course of this. Ohio State has steadfastly not played the other in-state schools like Dayton and Xavier, while Georgetown has refused for years to play Maryland, now to the point where Maryland refuses to schedule GU in other sports. The fans may want these games, but it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't end up happening.

ESPN seems to have been pretty successful in drawing attention to a week or weekend slate of games with catchy names.
What about, in addition to the Big East Big 10 Gavitt games, Fox and BTN partner to bring a Big 10 v. Big East rivalry week or rivalry day. MU - Wis, Crei - Neb and Rut - SH are already excluded from the games, so I think such an idea would be a bonus.
DePaul v. Illinois
Butler v. Indiana
Rutgers v. Seton Hall
Ohio State v. Xavier
Creigh v. Neb
MU v. Wisconsin
G-Town v. Maryland

I would guess those date back to when Michigan State was a fellow independent before joining the Big Ten in the early 1950s. In fact looking at the muscoop wiki page, it looks as though they used to play them twice a year in the thirties and forties.
