Fresh off the Luke Fischer Press Conference. Will add more later, but here are some highlights.....
Luke said the simplest way to put it, was that Indiana just wasn't the right fit for him. It wasn't just one thing or another, he just knew it wasn't the right fit. Said he met with his parents and they felt that if he wanted to leave, there was no reason to delay until the end of the year.
He felt Marquette was a perfect fit, not just because it was home, but because he likes the way they play, Davante & Chris are graduating so the PT will be there, but the Big East is the best competition.
He did not discuss Marquette with Crean at all, nor has he spoken with Crean since he left. Crean played no part in his choosing MU.
When he announced he was transferring, the very first person he heard from was Duane Wilson. He had played AAU against Duane for years and they knew each other well.
With all of the Wisconsin kids coming into the program, he feels it is an even better fit. He has played against everyone and they all know each other's games.
He is excited to be at MU, has only been there for 1 1/2 days and they wasted no time. He has already had his first practice yesterday and his first strength and conditioning workout today.
As far as practice goes, there was no time to learn the system, he was thrown into the fire immediately.
After Luke spoke Coach Jerry Wainwright spoke. He was introduces as the "Bigs Coach" to which he laughed about. Coach Wainwright said he had not known Luke before, but was excited about his potential. Said this was like a post-Christmas Christmas present. Compared Luke to Tim Duncan who he coached - not in talent, but the style of player. Said he has a skill set where his best place would be high post.
Said his large hands and wingspan will allow him to guard different types of people, and also talked about his frame, how wide his shoulders are, and that they just needed to put a little meat on his bones.
Said it is huge to have Chris and Davante play against someone else instead of beating each other up in practice. Said it will also be great for Luke's development to be able to play against those two and Jamil every day.
Said he and Steve will complement each other very well, and added that he can't wait until Steve if 100% physically. Said Steve has a ton of potential, just needs to be 100% healthy.
