One Night Only: A Night with Robert Indiana's MECCA Floor
US Cellular Arena
Aug. 23, 2013 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
The basketball court that became the world's largest pop art painting graced the floor of the then- MECCA Arena during Milwaukee Bucks, Marquette Warriors and other basketball games from its commissioning in 1977 until the MECCA (Milwaukee Exposition & Convention Center & Arena) name officially passed into history and a replacement was acquired in 1997.
Now, through the efforts of the Our MECCA Group, the floor will soon have a new life as an interactive, modoluar sculpture, which this fall will launch on a tour of art galleries, museums and other stops across the country through 2015. Eventually it wil return to Milwaukee for permanetn display in a location to be determined.
The evening of Friday, August 23 will be the last chance to see the floor fully assembled and laid out flat, and in its orginal home. The event is also a fund raiser to support the work of conserving the floor and converting it to its exciting new configuration!
Times: 7:00-10:00 p.m.
General admission: $10.00 plus fee
