I wonder what the rankings would be if you took recruiting out the equation and made the assessment strictly on coaching ability - in other words, if somehow everyone had the exact same talent, who did best in working with that talent.
Has anyone seen someone try and make some type of quasi scientific analysis over a period of time on coaches over performing or under performing based upon their recruiting classes. Short of that, if they rank the coaches strictly on coaching ability, I wouldn't doubt if about 15 of the 20 ended being in the top 20 - coaching and recruiting are almost one in the same.

I'm surprised Smart is ahead of Buzz. Maybe that's why GTown nixed VCU.
Speaking of GTown, JT-3 has gotten an awful lot of highly-regarded recruits. I'm amazed he's not on the list.

Sportswriters lists have a half-life of about a month.

The ranking is done by coaches though not sportswriters…..
