While St. Rita’s Charles Matthews and Stevenson’s Jalen Brunson headline the Class of 2015 in Illinois, the list of talented sophomore prospects in the state continues to grow. Here is a look at the City/Suburban Hoops Report’s top dozen college basketball prospects for the Class of 2015 heading into the summer.
1. Charles Matthews, 6-4, PG/SG, St. Rita
Regarded as one the top dozen prospects in the country in the Class of 2015, Matthews is a combo guard with size, length and versatility.
2. Jalen Brunson, 6-2, PG, Stevenson
Made a huge name for himself while averaging 21.8 points a game for a Stevenson team that finished second in the state.
3. D.J. Williams, 6-7, SF, Simeon
This long, skilled, versatile wing has a big 12 months ahead. He needs to show he’s ready to live up to the early hype.
4. Edward Morrow, 6-6, PF, Simeon
Although he’s an undersized four, Morrow is a strong, athletic rebounder and finisher who plays with a motor.
5. Roosevelt Smart, 6-3, SG, Palatine
Though he isn’t talked about as much as some other sophomores, Smart has an active body and can score in a number of ways.
6. Glynn Watson, 5-10, PG, St. Joseph
Has pure point-guard abilities that are difficult to find. Watson penetrates with speed, and he’s an outstanding passer with vision.
7. Prentiss Nixon, 6-0, SG, Bolingbrook
There isn’t a better shooter in the class, and he has outstanding range.
8. Aaron Jordan, 6-3, SG, Plainfield East
The unheralded sophomore put together a terrific season with little fanfare, averaging 15.5 points with 63 three-pointers.
9. Evan Boudreaux, 6-7, PF, Lake Forest
Aside from Stevenson’s Brunson, there isn’t another player in the class of 2015 as productive as Boudreaux. He’s strong, he rebounds and he can step out and knock down shots.
10. Joseph Toye, 6-6, SF, Young
With his great length, superior athleticism and untapped potential, Toye is arguably the most intriguing prospect in the class.
11. Antonio Pittman Jr., 6-2, SG, Rockford Jefferson
A rising prospect who might be the best-kept secret in Illinois. Pittman shoots with range and is athletic.
12. Jordan Ash, 6-1, SG, St. Joseph
A finisher at the rim with some eye-popping athleticism and strength.
