What Wisconsin "native" took his team to the most NCAA Elite 8 appearances as a D1 head coach?
Rick Majerus with two appearances?

Nope. One Wisconsin native had 3 appearances.
Another clue. You could argue that he was one of the top 5 coaches to come out of this state and I include Dick Bennett who was technically born in Pittsburgh. The other 3 outside of this gentleman were Majerus, Dr. Tom Davis and Marv Harshman. Harshman was the long time coach at Washington who was born in Eau Claire. I didn't know about Harshman's roots until this week when he passed away and he was the reason I look up this stat. Harshman only made 1 Sweet Sixteen at Washington, so he isn't the one.
Bennett, Davis and Majerus have all been inducted into the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Hall Of Fame and the answer to this question hasn't been.

Bruce Weber...?

Nope. Bruce went to 1 Final Four, but not another Elite 8.
Another clue and this will probably give it away. One of his top players played against one of Dick Bennett's high school teams in the WIAA state tourney.

Tom Davis...?

Not Tom Davis and maybe people don't realize this coach was from the state.
A few more and final clues. He coached in the same conference as Davis and Marv Harshman and one of his centers played for the Bucks. He had a guard on the same team as this center and the guard had the nickname "Fat".
Answer at 1:00 if not guessed.

His 1979-80 Pac-Ten runnerup team included starters Kurt Nimphius, Byron Scott, Alton Lister and Lafayette "Fat" Lever. Former Los Angeles area high school star Johnny Nash came off the bench for that team.

The only reason I knew about Wulk was that his plaque was on the UW-LaCrosse Wall of Honor(?) in Mitchell Hall when I attended there eons ago.
