It has been reported that the BB-7 will keep their NCAA Tournament Credits. If that is true, here goes.....
Here is an explanation of tournament credits with estimated numbers as they pertain to the Big East vs BB-7.
I believe this is accurate. Every round of the NCAA tournament is worth 1 credit. Each credit is worth a little over $220,000 I believe, and credits are paid out over a six year period. There are two ways to look at this.....
1) Are BB-7 schools leaving with the tourney credits they earned themselves?
2) Are BB-7 schools leaving with their "share" of the tourney credits earned by the conference?
If BB-7 schools are leaving with credits earned themselves....
Marquette - 12 (3, 3, 1, 2, 2, 1)
Villanova - 12 (1, 2, 5, 3, 1)
Georgetown - 11 (2, 1, 1, 2, 5)
St Johns - 1 (1)
DePaul, Providence, Seton Hall - 0
Total 36 credits
2007 - 7 = $1,540,000 ~ divided by 6 years = $256,667 ~ 1 year left = $256,667
2008 - 7 = $1,540,000 ~ divided by 6 years = $256,667 ~ 2 years left = $513,334
2009 - 7 = $1,540,000 ~ divided by 6 years = $256,667 ~ 3 years left = $770,001
2010 - 4 = $ 880,000 ~ divided by 6 years = $146,667 ~ 4 years left = $586,667
2011 - 6 = $1,320,000 ~ divided by 6 years = $220,000 ~ 5 years left = $1,100,000
2012 - 5 = $1,100,000 ~ divided by 6 years = $183,333 ~ 6 years left = $1,100,000
Total left that BB-7 will leave with = $4,326,669
If BB-7 schools are leaving with their “share” of the tournament credits earned by the conference….
Louisville - 17 (2, 4, 4, 1, 1, 5)
Pittsburgh - 13 (3, 2, 4, 2, 2)
