View Full Version : MU vs Syracuse game thread
Bilas & Raftery in the house - as is Jeff Goodman.
8 NBA scouts slated to be on hand.
If source is correct, refs will be Mike Stoner, Roger Ayers and Doug Shows.
Jimmy Butler in the house
Amazing what Syracuse' big men get away with down low. I haven't seen someone hug a player the way Christmas hugs Otule since Robert Jackson assaulted Steve Taylor over the summer. That coupled with the way Keita is all over Gardner & Taylor - its absurd.
For those wondering why the T on Fair was not counted as a personal - Andrew Gruman always has the rule book ready - hanging on the rim is considered a class B technical, and does not count as a personal foul.

I've been a big Lockett defender, but he has got to cut down on the turnovers.
MU was up in rebounds 8-5, now trail 12-9. Last few trips have been empty.
MU scoreless in the last 6:15

Watching him pass up on open 3's and kick it to Junior for a 3 is frustrating enough. Watching him drive into the lane and turn it over is maddening.
This one is getting away real fast. Settling for 3's from bad shooters is not a good combination.

We meed just a 2 pointer to get going again.
MU scoring drought lasts 7:39 - ouch.
No answer for Syracuse' aggressive D.

Too many turnovers. Crowd seems out of it.

WOW. What a turnaround. Is this the same team that just slept through the past 10 minutes?
Crowd has actually been louder than they have all year, just didn't have anything to cheer about for a long long time.
Junior Cadougan on a roll - this team simply won't quit!
The way Junior is attacking the hoop, you have to wonder if the halftime message was, "I don't care if they are in a zone, drive to the hoop".
Mu leading in the rebounding category 20-18. MU does have 9 turnovers and has only forced 5.
MU still up on the rebounds 24-19, but what is killing them is the points off of turnovers - Syracuse 16, MU 4.
Davante is leading MU with 16.

Davante is really the only reason MU is in this game at all.
MU still pounding Syracuse on the boards - 29-21. Key TO by Syracuse, only leaves them with one left.
Photographers kill me sometimes. Guy next to me has been taking pics for years - almost every single game - yes he has to look up the names of the player for every MU pic.
Junior's two free throws make this a 15-2 run for MU.

MU up on the glass 32-22.
Final MU 74 -71 - down goes another member of the Iscariot wing!

Davante was incredible. Missed his first FT and didn't miss anything from the floor or the line the rest of the night.

Buzz Williams game coaching tonight was special. He scrambled things repeatedly and that put Syracuse on their heels.

Yes. Goes to Jake when they were in desperate need of offense. Keeps Davante in the high post when subbing Taylor in for Otule. Goes back to Mayo when neither Lockett nor Blue had anything. Stuck with the zone when it was clear that Syracuse was uncomfortable with it.

May have been Devante's best overall game of his career. Not just the points, but his defense and rebounding were also important tonight.
Tulsa, I agree. Buzz coached a gem tonight. Played most of the 2nd half with Lockett, Anderson and Blue on the bench. Mixed it up a bit. Steve Taylor really earned his minutes tonight. I give Buzz a lot of credit for sticking with Mayo. A couple of huge 3's, especially the bomb with the shot clock winding down to give MU it's first two possession advantage.

Loved the comment by, I believe, Sean McDonough when Gardner went out for a blow before the under 8 TO. Saying that Gardner was getting a breather, he followed with so are the Syracuse big men. Gardner really can wear a team down.

That lineup with Gardner, Otule, and either Taylor, or Wilson is pretty effective, when they were in the game changed. This game really speaks to MU's toughness, midway through the first half things were looking ugly, they just played harder in the 2nd half. Real proud to be an MU fan tonight!

Buzz coached his ass off tonight. Cuse has 4-5 guys in their rotation that will play in the NBA. We have 1-2, and benched one of them tonight due to ineffectiveness.

I don't really care much if Boeheim wants to be an ass to reporters, and he's one of the greats, but for a team with this much talent to just settle for jump shots. I mean god forbid someone question JB's coaching acumen. What a sanctimonious jerk.
