They have hired Pilson Communications, which is essentially the services of a former CBS Sports Executive that negotiates television contracts.

Also hired Proskauer Rose, which apparently is a huge firm with one of their specialties being sports law.

C7 certainly in no rush here. The hiring of these specialists could have easily been done earlier...? Time is of the essence.

Is it? I don't know that they need to be in an extreme rush if they want to play by 2014, that means they would have a year and a half to set things up.

Just because they have formalized an agreement for the future does not mean they had not been working with them until now.

The C7 announced their departure early the week before Christmas. With the Holidays thrown in there, it slows things down a bit. Even then, it has only been two and a half weeks. And just because they *announced* these two moves, that doesn't mean that dialouge on items like expansion aren't also occurring.

True, though I was rather expecting the announcement of a point person. Guess things are going to go through a committee of university presidents for now....?

Trust me, there is a lot more going on that's not being reported, I'm sure these guys discussed a lot more today and even in the time before and after they announced they were splitting. I do agree though that assigning a commissioner of some sort is a good idea, doing everything by committee can be cumbersome when all of these folks have other duties that they need to attend to in other places.

Certainly there are things happening, but a point person (interim commissioner?) would seem appropriate. Otherwise, consultants and lawyers get too much control over the business model.

One of the ADs might actually be acting in that role.

I am guessing that is the case. I also suspect they are in contact with someone whom they want/expect to be the Commish. The fact they have not made a public announcement does not mean it is all 7 talking together.

Actually, that's my fear. Should not be one of the 7.
