This may have a big effect of the basketball break away, if Boise St. Leaves that means SDSU is likely out too... That would really hurt the football side. If they fall apart what does that mean for the basketball schools?

If anything, it might accelerate the league's separation.
What really interested me there was the explanation of the TV deal. So football has a 2013 home, but basketball will be without. All the more reason why we need to find a way to break off after this year. No reason to try to hold the Big East together once the 2013 tournament is done.
Unless by "hold the Big East together", you mean the NEW Big East with the C7, Xavier, Butler, and whichever other non-football schools we deem worthy :D

The football schools will stick together. They have to. UConn, ECU, Tulane, Memphis, UC, Houston, SMU and Temple is large enough for the time being.

If Boise & SD State stay in the Mt. West, I could see Houston & SMU coming in as well.

As Panther noted, there could be a domino effect. If schools that aren't yet here start leaving, others could follow suit. Boise, SDSU both stay, suddenly maybe Houston and SMU look at joining them, then what's the motivation for Tulane and ECU to complete the move. The more schools that leave, the better chance everyone just scrambles out and the entire league dissolves sooner. Especially with no basketball TV rights for 2013-14.

You are assuming that Houston and SMU are going to be invited by the Mountain West. I don't think that is a good assumption to make.

No...I'm just saying that the more teams that leave, the less attractive the overall conference package becomes and the more likely the instability will drive others to either stay in their current homes or find more stable landing grounds.
Every time a school either declares it is leaving the Big East or isn't coming, it lessens the likelihood of any long-term stability and hastens the likelihood of a dissolution.

Oh OK. But Conference USA has been significantly downgraded. They have lost ECU, Tulane, Houston, SMU, UCF and Memphis. In response they have added Charlotte, Old Dominion (both future football schools), FIU, Middle Tennessee, Florida Atlantic, LA Tech, UTSA and North Texas.
The BE remnants are a better football product than future CUSA will be.
