NCAA approves alleged tougher sacntions for rule breakers.

Of course this does not apply to Duke basketball, where I guess it is ok to play St. Schultz and say "I know nothing", and have the player involved refuse to talk to the NCAA.
Oh yeah, and buyout the guy that gave the player a $60,000 loan on $100k worth the jewlery. Then the NCAA, instead of digging into the details, just says there is nothing they can do and let's Duke get away with nothing.

If Reggie Bush's parents and the guy that gave them free rent only knew how to play the game USC would have had no problems.

The NCAA introduced a new penalty system including a four tier system, a new streamlined review process and penalties for head coaches if assistants commit violations. (http://www.brewcityball.com/forums/content.php?437-NCAA-Adopts)

Under these new rules I have to believe that the Monarch situation would be viewed as a Level III infraction.

Not trying to be snarky here, but do you mean simply the original infraction or the lying during the investigation.

Lying during the investigation has absolutely ZERO to do with the NCAA.

Unless he lies to the NCAA.

But he didn't lie to the NCAA. He lied to Larry Williams - it was an internal investigation, not an NCAA investigation.

You are correct. I was making an assumption that he would have lied to the NCAA as well.

For a secondary violation, the NCAA rarely conducts an investigation. They typically take the University's account of what happened and rule on whether or not the self imposed penalties were appropriate for the violation.
