..per SI article - I'm sure MU and other B-Ball only schools will be getting more than normal of this tactic w/ the uncertainty of the BE:

Great story Caribou! Reminds me of three different situations. I won't name names because 2 of the 3 are still in college (none are at Marquette)....

Story 1: In-home visit.... "Let's look at your top 4 schools.... "X is dirty, he'll be on probation before you are out of school, do you want to play where you won't be playing in the tournament?....Y is using that school as a stepping stone, the first big job that comes along, he'll be gone, you'll be playing for somebody else..... Z is on the hot seat, he'll be fired in the next year or two, you'll end up playing at a different school." Eventually the father of the recruit said, "You've been here for over a half hour, are you going to tell us why we should come to your school?"

At the end of the day, X was never put on probation. Y & Z were at their schools throughout the kid's career, and the kid is now in the NBA.

Story 2: A kid was not expected to qualify, so his home state school did not recruit him. When it became known that all he needed was two summer classes to qualify, they wanted him but were full, so they were constantly trying to convince him to go Juco. To the point where they were trying to get him to blow off classes so he would fail - inviting him for workouts during his class hours, getting him invited to AA tourneys etc etc, "You don't need that, just go Juco for a year and come to us."

At the end of the day the kid went elsewhere, but ended up transferring back home to play, where he still is today.

Story 3: A kid was not only committed, but he had signed. Coaches are not allowed to contact you once you sign. He said after he signed the calls did not stop. He named three schools in particular, who simply would not let up. He hated them, and wasn't shy about saying so.

At the end of the day, when he saw diminished playing time during his sophomore year, he ended up transferring back to the school who bothered him the most, where he still is today.

Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! Mr. Kotter, er, Mr. Irritated.

Story 1 couldn't be government school in a Midwest swing state's Capitol, because that government school's coach would NEVER do that, right?

In Story 1, did the player go to school X, Y, Z or the school whispering crap in his ear..

Unfortunately, said coach ALWAYS does that, but his posse attacks anyone and everyone to protect his public persona.

Big time negative recruiter, who interstingly enough, has had interest in coaching elsewhere in the past himself.
