Big East football stinks

No real surprise there...but the league has been trying to sell everybody the belief that the New Big East will be much stronger in football.

Well, Houston appears to be a flash in the pan post-Keenum. They got spanked by Texas State!! Then today, SMU gets clobbered by Baylor. It is extremely annoying that these two teams are coming into the league and watering down the basketball product at the expense of football...when they aren't any damn good in football either! Frustrating.

Is the ACC a great football conference? No.

But they have Florida State and Clemson, as well as Miami, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and even Virginia is decent. NC State isn't bad. Seriously, it's much better than the Big East is.

Who's good in the Big East right now? Louisville appears to be a legitimate Top 25 team. Other than that...?

Maybe I'm being overly critical after a rough first week. I just hate that football is tearing about an excellent basketball conference...and the Big East is so bad at it.

Nevada beat Cal and Colorado State beat Colorado. Mountain West better than Pac 12?

One thing to keep in mind. We are talking about a new Big East tv contract that could pay 8 to 10 mil for football schools. Schools like Boise, SMU, Houtson get something close to $1 mil for all sports from tv.
It will be a real change for these schools, who have done relatively well, when their football tv revenue is is 8x their current tv revenue for all sports. Their is a reason the schools that get the big money do well.

Houston lost to a team in its first season of FBS competition. Last season as an FCS team, they lost by 40 @ Texas Tech and 35 @ Wyoming. Now, they go into Houston (who was supposed to be a huge boost to Big East football) and stomped them. Houston lost their coach and their stud QB graduated. Were they a flash in the pan? Let's hope not.

Meanwhile, SMU getting destroyed by Baylor shows how far they are from relevance. I thought they were turning a corner but apparently not.

But what can a program like Houston do with what could very well be 10 times the amount of money earned by the football program with a new tv deal and an upgrade in conference?

The players that Houston, Central Fla and SMU have now were recruited before they ever thought they would be in the Big East. Was MU a flash in the pan with the final four appearance while in the same conference, CUSA? Thankfully we don't know as we got a Big East invite, an influx of cash and exposure which completely changed our recruiting dynamic. I really think it will do the same for Memphis, Houston, SMU, Central Florida, Boise State and San Diego State.
