If this is a minor violation, and it is now a story on ESPN, then that is absolutely ridiculous on Don Walker and Larry Williams part. To be reported by ESPN the impression is it is a serious vilolation.

Exactly - in Don Walker's interview on 1250 he said it was minor, but he did not say that in his blog report. The worst part is, it came out on a Friday. Not much happens in the college basketball world on the weekend, so there it sits on top of the ESPN scroll for the whole weekend.

Are they allowed to comment that it's minor or due to the investigation they can't? When Crean committed the minor violation not too long ago, we knew it was minor right when it came out. Maybe Indiana is just a ton smarter and releases news when they can specify it's minor.
There are a couple of things that need to be pointed out here.
1) THERE IS NO INVESTIGATION!!! People make it sound as if the NCAA wing of the FBI has been called in to investigate. That is not the case. MU discovered the violation on their own, turned it in to the NCAA, and the NCAA will review it along with MU and take appropriate action. There will not likely be any action in this case other than - 'it is in your file, don't let it happen again'.
2) The reason why this is getting so blown out of proportion, along with the answer to 2012's question, is Larry's answer to Don Walker's question. With the words he used, he could have said it was minor but he opted not to. Probably had his own reasons for doing that, but not using that critical word opened it up for more speculation/rumors/accusations on a local and national level.

Just re-read the article and the quote says, "the organization does not comment on current, pending or potential investigations." Doesn't say anything about Larry not being able to say something. It does seem like Larry was responding to inquiries made by Walker, unless this statement by MU is only for certain people. Either way, this has been handled very poorly by MU.
