View Full Version : MU vs Oregon Gmae Thread
Here we go...
Officials: Steve McJunkins, Kelly Pfeifer, Matt Morales
Starters:
Marquette
Markus Howard
Sacar Anim
Sam Hauser
Matt Heldt
Andrew Rowsey
Oregon
0 - Troy Brown 6'7 F Frosh
3 - Payton Pritchard 6'2 G Soph
5 - Elijah Brown 6'4 G RSr
13 - Paul White 6'9 F RJr
22 - Mikyle McIntosh 6'7 F RSr
While he is in the starting lineup, the way Sam is walking, carrying himself etc., there is no way he is 100%. I hope he's effective today, but if he isn't I wouldn't hesitate to shut him down.
After Heldt got burned, coaches yelling to all players "DO NOT hedge any ball screens!"
Harry Frohling in early, MU with 5 assists on 5 made baskets

A very fast paced game.
Yes - especially when you watch a ton of college basketball, look up at the scoreboard and there is only 4 minutes left... and it takes you a few seconds to realize they are playing 4 quarters.
Interesting to watch Oregon's Paul White, Buzz recruited him heavily prior to his committing to Georgetown.
Fouls at this point MU 6, Oregon 1 - a little lopsided

Oregon is driving, Marquette is taking jump shots.
MU 30-19 at the end of the first quarter. 30 pts in 1 qtr? MU is really rolling. Started slow on the glass too, but have now overtaken the rebounding battle.

I know, just pointing it out as all of the fans behind me had been complaining about it.
Sam just came out of the game. Wojo grabs him and says, "I'm gonna rest you for a while". Sam responds, "No - I'm alright. "

Syracuse just upset MSU 55-53
At the 2:43 mark MU with 6 offensive rebounds - that has got to be a record for this team.
Greg Elliott really showing signs of pain in his ankle.

Hell of a first half.......when this team is good it's so fun to watch.

Its crazy how they can make you want to pull your hair out one week, and look this good the next.
When Rowsey gets stripped, he should start playing defense and worry about complaining to the refs later.
Marquette fouls at the 5:34 mark of 3rd quarter...
Anim - 3
John - 2
Rowsey - 2
Cain - 2
Howard - 3
Hauser - 1
Heldt - 3
Frohling - 2
Not great.
Possibly the biggest stat of the game?
Points off turnovers...
Oregon - 3
Marquette - 24
How can this team not even begin to deal with a press?

Need Sam to help with the press.

So unsettling. Can we clone Tony Miller?

The AL looks so good on TV and audio is really crisp.
This quarter seems to be taking forever.

Yeah when Sam and Markus are on the bench we don't have the personnel to handle pressure

A long way to go here.
More poor inbounds against press, now a forced timeout - Sam checks back in.
Anytime someone presses MU, Hauser should be inbounding.

Good gosh - here we go again.
Only 3:38 left, but getting interesting as Oregon has cut the lead to 15 but fouls...
Anim - 5
Howard - 5
Heldt - 4
Cain - 3
Frohling - 3
John - 3
Rowsey - 2
Elliott - 1
Hauser - 1
I know MU wants to run the clock out, smart move. But when you break the press and Heldt/John are alone under the hoop, why not take the easy two instead of dribbling back out?

Because they don't foul --- as much --- when they have the ball.
Good point, I'd still take the points.

I don't ever recall MU having 3 players foul out in a victory. Best I can say about these officials is that they got a lot of face time on TV.

Certainly some of the fouls were committed by MU, but that officiating was plain awful. 60+ FTs in the game. No flow. took the crowd out of it in the 2nd half.

Oh The irony that one of the officials name was McJunkins!

Honestly makes me appreciate the BIG EAST officiating. Can't believe I just typed that.

it happened earlier this year vs PC. Heldt, Sacar and Elliott
That was OT however.

I can not say how many basketball games I have watched over more than 60 years, but my guess is the figure would be at least five figures.
I coached seventh and eighth grade; I watched my son and daughter play throughout middle school and my daughter through high school. I have watched college and some pro games as well.
Yesterday's reffing was, and I do not exaggerate, the worse officiating I have EVER seen...and that is saying something. Those officials were a disgrace to the profession.
I almost never complain about officiating as I reffed for a few years, and I know how challenging it can be, but yesterday was off-the-charts horrendous.
