Shows you how deep the league is. A lot of talent left off the top 2 teams.

How the hell is he NOT unanimous??Interesting that Patton and Lovett were redshireted as frosh and Divencenzo was a medical redshirt as he played 8 games last year prior to injury. Rather "elderly" group other than Howard!

Fourth in the league and relatively modest post season honors. Must be coaching.

Technically tied for 3rd and seeded 4th due to tiebreakers. If you were truly in compliance with Circular 230, you wouldn't make such an error. Just sayin'...

Markus should be on the second team ahead of Cartwright.

I am shocked that Rodriguez did not even get honorable mention. For conference games he ended up 4th in the league in scoring at 17.2 ppg, 7th in 3-pt fg% at 42.2%, 5th in average treys per game at 2.4. Plus he averaged a solid 4.5 rpg. On top of all that, he gives 100% on every possession.

I think it has more to do with a balanced team. This is not a team of 1-2 superstars, this is a team with a lot of well balanced talent.
MU doesn't have anyone averaging 20 pts per game, instead they have seven guys averaging between 8.7 and 13.1 ppg.
MU doesn't have anyone averaging 8 assist per game, instead they have six guys between 2.2 and 3.6 apg.
MU doesn't have anyone averaging 10 rebounds per game, but they do have four guys averaging over 4 rpg.
Now, considering all of that, how about that Duane Wilson, one of the keys to this team, isn't in any of the above?
Matt Heldt, who has been really coming on, isn't in any of the above?
While MU does have some holes in their roster, this is a team where the points, rebounds, assists and every other stat are really spread around, so guys like Howard and Hauser may stand out to us as all frosh and even Markus as 2nd team, to those that only see MU a couple of games per year, they might not. While we may feel that others may deserve a spot on 2nd team or honorable mention, to those that only see them twice a year, they might not.
McDermott said it best in his post game... Howard, Rowsey, Reinhardt, Hauser - those guys can all shoot it, so you have to defend them out there. Then Johnson goes off from three, how can you prepare for that? How can you defend all four on the perimeter without leaving yourself wide open?
MU does not have the best team out there, not even close. But screw the awards, this team has so many different people that are capable of stepping up at any given time that the BEAST Tourney and NCAA Tourney will be fun to watch for MU fans for the first time in years.

Curious how Markus Howard from Marquette was not unanimous for All-BE Freshman team

Good points IWB, balanced attack and what people that only saw MU a couple times may have seen.
Look at Howard, in the two games against St. John's he scored a total of 12 points. Was scoreless in one game against Villanova. Scored 3 in a game against Georgetown. Also, not a very good defender at this point.

Agree with you on Howard. Could see how he wasn't unanimous on the All Freshman Team given his sometimes off nights. But when he was good, he was really good. No way could I see him making 2nd team All Big East. Desi Rodriguez on the other hand.....

Howard's eFG .210 higher. Turned the ball over less. Rebounded about the same. Much more efficient. Cartwright is a better defender however. I mean, *in conference* Howard scored more ppg playing 11 less per game than Cartwright.
But really this is what the coaches do - they oftentimes reward players who play more, but not necessarily who plays better. Ah well...Howard will get his due.

Don't have much of a problem not having Cartwright on the 2nd team but Markus just wasn't a good enough defender in my eyes to be there, whereas Rodriguez played both ends of the court. Guess having 3 guys from the 5th seed wasn't an option.
