Villanova, MU and Butler all taking on ranked non conference foes. A lot of potential to make a statement for the Big East tomorrow.

"The Big East has nothing to prove.

Let's start there, because by now, questions about the league's viability -- whether it could survive the great college sports realignment of 2010s as a post-schism, basketball-only affair -- feel pretty silly. Of course it is viable; of course it can survive. If three years of quality basketball and a 50 percent NCAA tournament appearance average didn't seal the deal, Ryan Arcidiacono's dumpoff to a trailing Kris Jenkins signed those terms on the line which is dotted."

5. Marquette, kind of quietly, has the biggest game of its season

The Golden Eagles haven't played a game of relevance yet this season, but their home tilt against hated in-state rival Wisconsin provides the team its best opportunity for a signature win. If Steve Wojciechowski's team does hold serve on its home floor, MU will have a case to be ranked and will enter the at-large discussion. Pivotal game. Marquette's only other win against a team with a halfway decent chance to be in the Big Dance is Georgia. (2 p.m. ET, Saturday, FS1)
