Nationally Ranked Prospect Jamal Cain Signs With MU

All-state performer was Michigan Class C Player of the Year in 2015-16

Milwaukee – Nationally ranked prep standout Jamal Cain (Pontiac, MI/Cornerstone Health & Technology HS) has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Marquette University men’s basketball program, head coach Steve Wojciechowski announced Wednesday morning.

Cain, 6-7, 180-pounder, will arrive on campus in the summer of 2017 and have four years of eligibility with the Golden Eagles.

“We are so excited that Jamal and his family have decided to join our family here at Marquette,” Wojciechowski said. “Jamal’s athleticism and versatility are exceptional and he impacts the game in a variety of ways.

“I have loved watching his development and growth as a player,” Wojciechowski added. “His future is incredibly bright and we can’t wait for him to get his career started with the Golden Eagles.”

Cain, rated as high as 77th in the nation by Rivals.com, has spent each of the last two seasons at Cornerstone Health & Technology in Detroit, Michigan. He has combined to average 24.8 points, 15.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.0 blocks per game since joining the program and helped the team to a 27-14 overall record. He has led the squad in scoring and rebounding in each of his two years en route to most valuable player accolades and is just eight points shy of reaching 1,000 for his career at Cornerstone.

The first team all-state honoree was named the Michigan Class C Player of the year in 2015-16. He has competed on the AAU circuit with The Family Detroit and 2016-17 will be his fourth at the varsity level.

Cain played his freshman campaign at Melvindale Academy for Business & Technology in Melvindale, Mich.

Marquette’s 2017 class includes Cain, Ike Eke (Detroit, MI/Univ. of Detroit Jesuit HS) and Theo John (Minneapolis, MN/Champlin Park HS). The class, which features a trio of players taller than 6-7, adds some much-needed size to the roster.

“We are so excited about the addition of Jamal, Theo and Ike to the Marquette men’s basketball program,” Wojciechowski said. “Not only are they great kids, but they will also add to the size and athleticism of our roster. Each young man shown a strong desire to get better and a commitment to being a great teammate.”
