MU Announces Addition Of USC Transfer Katin Reinhardt
Experienced guard owns pair of NCAA tournament trips
Milwaukee – The Marquette University men’s basketball program has added USC transfer Katin Reinhardt (KATE-inn RINE-hart) to the roster for the 2016-17 campaign, head coach Steve Wojciechowski announced Wednesday morning.
Reinhardt, a 6-6, 220-pounder, will arrive on campus in the summer of 2016 and has one season of playing eligibility remaining.
“Katin is a terrific addition to our program,” Wojciechowski said. “He has shown the ability to be an impact player at the high major level and his experience, versatility and ability to score will be a valuable asset to our program.
“We are really excited to welcome him to the Marquette basketball family,” Wojciechowski added.
The Dana Point, California native arrives in Milwaukee after most recently spending two seasons at USC. He started 40 of the 65 games he appeared in for the Trojans and helped the program reach the NCAA tournament in 2015-16. Last season he contributed 11.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game in 34 appearances. As a sophomore, he chipped in a team-high 12.5 points per contest while also topping the roster in 3-pointers (61) and free throw percentage (.815).
Reinhardt redshirted in 2013-14 after spending his first collegiate season at UNLV (2012-13). The Runnin’ Rebels finished 25-10 that season and participated in the NCAA tournament. He contributed 10.1 points per outing, started 34 of the team’s 35 games and was named to the 2013 Mountain West Championship All-Tournament Team.
For his career, Reinhardt is shooting 36.9 percent (186-of-504) from behind the 3-point line and 147-of-176 (83.5 percent) from the charity stripe.
A nationally ranked prospect at Mater Dei High School, Reinhardt was the 2012 Los Angeles Times Player of the Year and a USA Today Third Team All-America honoree as a senior. His team lost a total of just seven games in his four years and won 30-or-more games each season. He averaged 21.0 points per game in his final campaign and led Mater Dei to a 32-4 overall record and its second-straight state championship.
Reinhardt joins freshmen Markus Howard (Chandler, AZ/Findlay Prep), Sam Hauser (Stevens Point, WI/Stevens Point Area HS) and Brendan Bailey (American Fork, UT/American Fork HS) in Marquette’s group of newcomers. Bailey will arrive on campus in 2018 after serving a Mormon mission.
