SETON HALL’S WHITEHEAD, MARQUETTE’S ELLENSON EARN WEEKLY MBB HONORS


NEW YORK – Seton Hall’s Isaiah Whitehead has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Marquette’s Henry Ellenson has been selected BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Whitehead sparked Seton Hall to wins over Xavier and Providence, a pair of ranked opponents. Ellenson takes Freshman honors for the seventh time this season.



BIG EAST Player of the Week


Isaiah Whitehead, Seton Hall, G, So.

Whitehead led Seton Hall to a 2-0 week, which included a 90-81 win against fifth-ranked Xavier, by averaging 23.5 points, 7.0 assists and 4.0 blocked shots. The Hall’s other victory was a 70-52 decision over Providence, ranked 24th by USA Today. Against the Friars, Whitehead posted 25 points, nine assists, six rebounds and four blocked shots. In the Xavier win, he had 22 points, five assists and four blocks.


BIG EAST Freshman of the Week


Henry Ellenson, Marquette, F, Fr.

Ellenson earns Freshman of the Week honors for the seventh time this season after averaging 17.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week. He compiled his 16th double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds in a 66-61 win at Creighton. Ellenson ranks fourth in the league in scoring at 16.6 and first in rebounding at 9.8.


BIG EAST Honor Roll


Kellen Dunham, Butler, G, Sr.
Scored 29 points and grabbed five rebounds in a 90-87 overtime victory at Georgetown.

Eli Cain, DePaul, G, Fr.
Averaged 19.0 points and 3.5 rebounds, while shooting 63.2 percent from the field and 54.5 percent from 3-point range in a 1-1 week.

Ben Bentil, Providence, F, So.
Averaged 29.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in a 1-1 week. Had 31 points, eight rebounds and five assists in a win against DePaul.

Desi Rodriguez, Seton Hall, F, So.
Had 27 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Xavier and averaged 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week.

Myles Davis, Xavier, G, Jr.
Averaged 15.5 points, 5.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week, which included 16 points and six assists in a 90-83 win over No. 1 Villanova.
